- People whose culture and traditions distinguish them from the majority in New Zealand. Māori and Pacific people usually work through Te Puni Kōkiri or the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs Migrants, refugees, long-term settlers and descendants of early settlers.
- Ethnic community organisations.
- Government agencies and local authorities.
- Voluntary and community organisations and service providers.
- Multicultural centres and migrant and refugee centres.
Relationships
The Minister for Ethnic Affairs is the Hon Pansy Wong.
The Office is a part of The Department of Internal Affairs. We work especially closely with the Local Government and Community Branch, Identity Services and the Translation Service of The Department of Internal Affairs.
We also work closely with:
- The Human Rights Commission.
- Ethnic community groups.
- The New Zealand Immigration Service, Settlement Branch.
- The New Zealand Federation of Ethnic Councils.
- Refugee Councils.
- Non-governmental organisations, such as the Refugee and Migrant Service, Refugees as Survivors, Refugee and Migrant Centres.
- Local government in New Zealand.
