Prepare The Job Profile
Take a fresh look at the role and functions of the job rather than just run with what the previous job-holder did. A well prepared job description (what the job entails), and person specification (a list of the skills and knowledge needed to do the job well) will enable applicants to decide whether they are eligible for the job, and possibly save you from looking at unsuitable applications.

An Intercultural lens
Will a new settler be able to marry their overseas experience with the job requirements?
Don’t exclude newcomers by requiring knowledge and networks that only a local could provide. Acquiring local knowledge and introduction to professional networks can be incorporated into good induction.
Are formal qualifications essential or would someone with on-the-job experience bring similar or even greater benefits to the business?
Does the person need previous experience in a local role or are there transferable skills from the candidate’s experience in other countries that would enable them to be successful in the job?
