Jenny Hsu

Intro: Jenny Hsu is a Taiwanese immigrant, now living in Auckland. Jenny tells of how she came to live in New Zealand and the challenges she experienced, before enjoying success in her new home country.

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. I came to New Zealand twelve years ago as an international student. The experience of staying with a kiwi homestay Family was great and I have learnt so much by interacting with them.

They treated me with respect and were interested in my culture. I followed my passion and dream to study psychology and counseling and it has been a long journey but the experience of helping others with my professional knowledge has been rewarding. I am now a New Zealand citizen and I am very proud of my bicultural backgrounds.

I worked with autistic children for some time. They have taught me what their world is like and I was able to identify and meet their special needs with empathy.

I am now working as a counselor with the Home and Family Society.I have experienced various issues and have met with people from different cultural backgrounds and all ages. I cherish my work with my clients; I respect their stories and what they have to say.

My journey to settle in a new country and to be a qualified professional in what I do has been the greatest challenge in my life. I have a very clear sense of who I am and what I want to achieve to fulfill my goals. I appreciate the opportunities for me to grow and contribute to the New Zealand society. Most importantly, I look for these opportunities and contributing to this soceity has been a great success for me.
