Our Role
- to develop specialist knowledge of ethnic diaspora communities in New Zealand
- to engage with ethnic communities on key issues, facilitate their access to government services and identify barriers to opportunities for better access and integration
- to support the development of self directed sustainable ethnic communities through targeted capacity building
- to promote ethnic responsiveness in government
- to develop implement and evaluate best practice in ethnic sector development
- to promote the benefits of diversity within society
How we do it
- provision of Strategic advice and analysis to Government
- ethnic sector capacity building projects and workshops
- visibility / cultural projects
- community engagement
- creating opportunities within host community and between ethnicities for education and dialogue on diversity
- partnering with other agencies and non government organisations on strategic programmes and projects
In addition to the forums, events and workshops planned the Ethnic Affairs Advisory team also works on a number of other initiatives - these include:
- strategic analysis - which includes the development and evaluation of capacity building strategies
- in addition we provide ad hoc advice to ethnic communities as needed and maintain a programme of ethnic community visits, meetings and cultural events
- we also deliver presentations, host panel discussions and authentic dialogue events on diversity issues for mainstream and host community groups as part of our work on the benefits of diversity
